THE CLEANERS – Buy Tickets
Germany, Brazil, Netherlands, Italy, USA
Directed by Hans Block & Moritz Riesewieck
Rated 14A: violence; sexual content
An expose on a peculiar underbelly of social media: the hidden shadow industry of digital cleaning, where the internet rids itself of what it doesn’t like, such as violence, pornography and even political content.
Join The Kamloops Film Series’ special guest speaker, Brian Lamb, as he draws connections between both the film and his impressive body of work, and experience navigating and deciphering the importance and impacts of the Internet, its applications, and our public and clandestine interactions with it.
Brian Lamb is Director, Learning Technology and Innovation, at TRU. For twenty years, he has lived and worked in the often-strange environments of online culture. Prior to the screening of The Cleaners, he will attempt to provoke discussion on the theme of “Information Pollution: Causes, Effects, Responses.” He mutters ill-tempered observations on his BLOG.
Pre Film Talk:

“A sobering story of electronics and social media over-taking the world we inhabit and the morals we should hold dear, The Cleaners is perhaps one of the most terrifying portraits of 21st Century online life ever committed to the screen.”
~At Darren’s World of Entertainment
“Social media has produced insoluble problems so inconceivably vast and complicated that they paralyze the mind. The Cleaners is a very noble effort to backspace us into reality.”
~Adrian Mack, The Georgia Straight
